This site is dedicated to the memory of Jimmy Barr (23.4.1921 - 23.2.2008)
Jimmy Barr was born in Auchenheath, Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1921. A true gentleman, once met, he could never be forgotten. Jimmy was a striking example of someone who never stops trying - he overcame a rare form of leukaemia aged just 3 to later become a national athletic champion, scholar, engineer and tax inspector.
He was adored by his wife May, whom he married in 1945 and their Golden Wedding Anniversary was celebrated shortly before May died very suddenly and unexpectedly in May 1995.
He continues to be loved, cherished, admired and respected by his children Marilyn and George, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jimmy's beautiful and powerful legacy is the close family he leaves behind, imbued with faith, a passion for integrity, their Scottish heritage, and of course, his treasury of wonderful stories.

Anniversary time approaching again, Papa. You're never far from my mind. We've made contact with something you would absolutely adore- the Jim Hamilton Coalburn Heritage Group. They've even turned up details about Ceely Spence! I think Mum and I should pay a visit and see what else we can find; there are bound to be photos of you and wider Barr family members that we've not yet seen. Miss you, Papa, and love you always.

14 years today Papa. How is that possible? I thought of you so much this week - attending storywriting workshops and I even shared today how you had written a memoir for me about your early years and meeting Gran. I am so bery glad I have that now. I'll treasure it always because its like having you back in the room.
I have seen you several times today out of the corner of my left eye - a flicker. I hope you're pleased I'm back home in Scotland at last. You know it always was my dream.
